Title: 'Rastres'

Year: 2024

AI-powered motion capture transformed dancers’ movements into real-time visuals, creating “Rastres” for Mercat de les Flors

For this project, we wanted to capture the fluidity and expression of movement in real time, using AI and advanced motion-capture technology. This innovation allowed us to free dancers from clunky sensor suits, so they could move naturally and express themselves without limits.

Our challenge, given by Mercat de les Flors and the agency Make It Gas, was to bring Wonderground’s dance team to life through a visual composition for the 2024–2025 season. The result was “Rastres”, a piece that captures the traces of each gesture and movement, the marks of a body painting space through dance.

We combined AI-based motion tracking with Unreal Engine, processing massive amounts of movement data and transforming it into mesmerizing visuals made of endless flowing lines. To help Make It Gas’ graphic team select the perfect moment, we generated ultra-high-resolution 6K videos at 2,400 fps.

Inspired by the spirograph and its geometric patterns, we added a unique visual language to the visuals. The result? Beautiful designs that capture the grace and complexity of movement.
